Our favorite food film of all time, Big Night, came out in 1996.  A cult classic, it's a hysterical account of the sometimes heated relationship of two brothers who open a very authentic Italian restaurant in not-so-worldly New Jersey of the 1950's.

The music, the dialogue, the cinematography, are just perfect.  At the center of it all, is the food: A huge feast and all the love and care and drama that goes into it.

We will screen the film in the private screening room at The Heldrich across the street, beginning at 6:30, truffled popcorn included. Immediately afterwards, we will recreate the feast from the film in the dining room of Catherine Lombardi.  We will dine at large communal tables and great fun will be had by all.

We have once again partnered with the folks at Farnese Vini in Southern Italy.  This dynamic group is producing some remarkable and rule-bending country wines that are absolutely delicious and stunning values. They will offer a complimentary glass of wine with the film. Click for a trailer

By 19 years of age, Guy Davis was working as a sommelier in Seattle. Judy Davis also began her romance with wine in those heady college days. Their shared passion these last 30 years, first lead to a retail operation. In 1997, they realized a dream and acquired their own vineyards and winery.  Guy will be here to host this dinner with his wines.

 

The wines are simply spectacular. They're generous and juicy, but also sophisticated wines that show grace and restraint.

They are very much Sonoma.

 

                The wines are organic. Fermentation is with indigenous yeast.

                    They are neither filtered nor fined. They are delicious! 

 

With the passage of time, sons Cole and Cooper are now grown and share the work with their parents. Cole is the cellar master and assistant winemaker at Davis Family Vineyards, and Cooper is attending Sonoma State University working toward his Wine Marketing degree. Sunday Pig Roast with El Tesoro Tequila

 

 

Tequila Pig Roast

I still remember the first time I tasted El Tesoro de Don Felipe Tequila. It was the early 1990s and the brand was still owned by Carlos Camarena Curiel, grandson of the original Don Felipe Camarena.

While it's no longer family owned, the current owners seem to be doing things the right way. It's still made by hand, crushed in a stone mill, baked in an old fashioned horno, fermented with natural yeast and distilled to proof with no addition of sugar or water. That's some serious Tequila right there, and it shows in every glass.

Sunday, we're going to mix up some Tequila drinks

and roast us up some pig.

 

...Summer in New Brunswick ain't so bad after all!

 

Now you never can be exact with a whole pig, but we can assume he'll be ready to go around about 5:30 PM. We will have our regular dinner menu available.

 

The pig is served family-style: $20 for a half-pound $29 for a pound and it comes with selected sides from our regular Stage Left Steak menu: one side per half pound.

 

We will give you a glass to toast the porcine who will not have given his life in vain.

 

El Tesoro Drinks!

The Frozen Drink Machine will be stocked with an icy version of Tommy's Margarita, which was created in the early 90's by Julio Bermejo at Tommy's Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco, California.

 

It is a bartender's secret weapon. Instead of Tequila, lime and Cointreau, Tommy's is Tequila, lime, agave syrup. It is a particularly pure iteration of a Tequila cocktail. We're going to freeze it up. 

 

Trader Vic's El Diablo is a long drink with Tequila, Cassis and our incredible Blenheim's Ginger Ale.  Our own Chris Stanley's invention The Shift Drink is Tequila, Apricot & Kalamansi Lime juice. 

 

We will also have a few different El Tesoro available for tasting and we will have bottles for sale.
