Balblair distillery is a little-known distillery on the coast of the Dornoch Firth. The first barrels of Balblair rolled out in 1790! The current owners like to tout this 1790 date; but in fact, the current distillery was not built until 1894; a relative new-comer. Every year, distillery manager, John MacDonald, selects whiskies that he believes have reached their exact point of optimum maturation, the peak of perfection. Balblair releases only vintage whisky.
The first Balblair distillery was built in 1790 by John Ross. A second Balblair distillery was founded nearby in 1894. It was closed during World War I in 1915 and it wasn't revived again until 1947, after the end of the second World War. The current releases have achieved much acclaim and we love the vintage dating.
The 1983 is matured over three decades in one of Balblair’s traditional dunnage warehouses. This exceptional vintage has developed aromas of butterscotch, toffee and fresh vanilla, with Balblair’s signature tropical fruitiness completing an exquisitely balanced profile. Of note, it is also the year Francis & Mark graduated high school!
