The Rozès family has been distilling Armagnac at The Domaine d'Aurensan for four generations. Last week, we tried the 20 year from this esteemed estate. It was mind-blowingly delicious. This week, we'll go one generation further.
40 Year (1975)
...is from a single cask (230 Liters) of 100% Ugni Blanc from 1975. A hot and quite dry summer, particularly at the beginning, saw the grapes get loaded with aromas and fat. The spirit is a beautiful amber color, bright and clear, with old copper tints. The delicate woody nose is intense and surrounded with candied fruits, prune, dried fig hints. On the palate, we feel these beautiful notes of evolution, crowned by a touch of anise.
In 1975, I was excited for the coming bicentennial, getting ready to collect bicentennial quarters and enjoy bicentennial minutes on the television. The wallpaper in my room was of astronauts and the space shuttle. That's when this brandy was being distilled. It's waited a long time for you to come and drink it. See you Thursday!
