When I speak of Bourbon and Fried Chicken, everyone thinks of The South. While the land of Dixie is certainly home to some of the best examples of both, we Yankees here in the North can certainly hold our own.
So I know you've heard it before that someone has the best fried chicken ever. Simply put, they're wrong. We do. Now Fried Chicken is not really a Stage Left thing, but in the summertime, we do occasionally like to let our hair down. You may know that in most fine dining restaurants, the staff eats dinner (family meal) together right before we open. Everyone is very happy when Chef makes our signature fried chicken. Sunday, July 10, we would like to invite you to a more casual menu option to be enjoyed with some great American Whiskey. Here's The Dinner: Fried Chicken (like you've never had before), Anson Mills Antebellum Grits, Collard Greens and Black-Eyed Peas and Sausage Gravy. For dessert, we'll have a house-made frozen chocolate fudge pop on a stick, (reminiscent of a certain frozen treat from your childhood, which name I cannot write because it's trademarked) and Berry Bread Pudding. The Chicken Dinner will be $29. It will make you happy.
Bourbon, Rye and Malt Whiskey
For 220 years this historic Gristmill used waterpower to render local grains to flour. In 2003, Ralph Erenzo and Brian Lee created Tuthilltown Spirits LLC, converting one of the mill granaries to a micro-distillery. Two and a half years later, the stills were first fired. Tuthilltown is New York’s first whiskey distillery since prohibition, distilling some of America’s most prized spirits. The American Distilling Institute named them Best U.S. Artisan Distillers of 2010. (Full Disclosure: I Judge for The ADI. All judging is blind.) They produce several bourbons, rye and single malt whiskey. While not inexpensive, these are some fantastic American whiskies. Not bad for a couple of Yankees.
Sunday, July 10, we'll be mixing up juleps in fine silver cups with mint and berries, fresh from the farm. Mint, Blackberry Mint, Cherry, Elderflower, Blackberry Juleps are what we're aiming for. We'll see what else is in the market as well. Turn up Sunday from 4-8. On arrival we'll put a julep in your hand. Thereafter, Hudson Whiskey Cocktails will be $9. Our regular menu, bar menu and our delicious burgers will be offered, as well as the Fried Chicken Dinner for $29. We hope to see you.
