In the summer of 1886, with his seven sons and two daughters by his side, William Grant set out to fulfil a lifelong ambition. Together they began building his Distillery by hand, stone by stone. After a single year of work, it was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer.
You may not realize that Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned. William Grant and Sons owns many fine brands, but Glenfiddich is still their flagship. It is now the World's Most Awarded Single Malt* Scotch Whisky. In the 1960s it became one of the first single malt Scotch whisky to be promoted outside Scotland. When Mark and I started tending bar in 1986, it was still one of only three that you could find in only the best of bars, along with Macallan and Glenlivet.
The 21 Year is a rare mark indeed, aged in casks that once held Caribbean Rum.
