Bob Biale is simply one of the most talented makers of Zinfandel on the planet! Bob is also one of the nicest guys on the planet. We've poured his wines for well over a decade now and we even got him to come out here and do a dinner once. It was more than a decade ago and it was fantastic. We've asked Bob out every year since, but he likes to stick close to the farm. We consider ourselves lucky to have him again. In California Grape Culture and Wine Making (Circa 1888), George Hussman wrote, I have yet to see the red wine of any variety [that] I would prefer to the best samples of Zinfandel produced in this state. Unfortunately these best samples are like angels? visits, ?few and far between.' On March 15, we will have a Zinfandel Angel visit at 7.
The menu will lean heavily on birds. We've recently acquired a duck press and we love it. This ancient kitchen tool is used to press the remaining carcass of duck to extract marrow and other juices for use in finishing the duck. The duck is served in two courses, the Duck Legs and then The Duck Breast in a rich sauce, fortified with duck liver, port and cognac and finished with it's own juices. It will be an exceptional dinner for some exceptional wines: Angels' visits indeed!
